GENEVA - Scientists will launch an experiment in a tunnel deep beneath the French-Swiss border Wednesday, hoping to find evidence of extra dimensions, invisible "dark matter," and an elusive particle called the "Higgs boson."

I think what really matters is the experiment over the technology, we don't know yet. They are going to create the first collision of 14 TeV, this can create anything : black holes, strangelets and deSitter space transition

I seem to remeber a collider was built in Newport News, VA back in 1995.
