just wanted to share with you all some of my favorites from my users. :)

please share your favorite (funniest, most terrible...etc) work issues, too

  • 1. one of my users wrote in to ask why her "DUEL monitor" set-up wouldnt work in term serv

  • 2. I've had more than one tell me that "it SEAMS like something is wrong" with whatever

  • 3. I had a user who called in asking why she wasnt able to access the batch reports, I directed her to the person who gives the permissions for the reports, and asked her to cc me on the email she sent...I got the email a few minutes later... subject: "BACH reports. "

  • 4. I got a ticket that said "My printers/ printing are crazy"

  • 5. Upon auto-magic resolution on one users issue with Outlook, she responded with "I did the old standby..turned the darn thing off, walked around it three times counterclockwise, applied my hand to my head and promised my first born. issue resolved (for now)"

here's my favorite of the day:

"Hi- I just had my computer switched out to a new one, I’ve been trying to fax a document, I noticed that the efax is a 4.2, in the past I had 4.1, so I’m not sure if the wrong one was installed when the computer was sent to me? Thank you!"

Oh dear lord... I do love number 5 of course.

Everyone know that by having more than one nic in your computer and plugging them both to the "rooter" you get double the speed right?

Of course when you accident'y upplug it but you just KNOW you plugged it back in, sometimes you have to switch the ends of the ethernet cable...

favorite of the day:

User is in the office talking to my boss who is explaining that the issues with her computer are not quite resolved, as he is still in process of removing the bajillion screensavers she downloaded. She askes what caused the issues. He tells her the bajillion screensavers she downloaded. She comments that she is sure it is Symantec causing the issues, not the screensavers. She mentioned that one of our techs told her that the issues (from her description) were probably due to something she downloaded, and then says how she hasn't downloaded anything. My boss, being the really really really nice guy he is listens to her, and gently states that she did download the screensavers, and chides her (very gently) for installing any non-corporate-approved software.

yes..yes... the issue is Symantec, not the bajillion screensavers that magically appeared on your computer, since you didnt download anything. mmmhhmm

User requested a table from us today. Because IT always supplies tables, right? The worst part if that she was directed to do this by the team that is our office managers, you know, the people who should be supplying office furniture, like tables.

Here's the latest:

I'm on the phone with a remote user, she is telling me about all these issues she has been having with her computer and I hear this noise..this whirring sound,

Me:  "Is that your computer? That noise?"

Her: "Yes."

Me: "how long has it been making that noise?"

Her: "Oh, months, I thought it was normal, I thought it was the sound of the motor."

ha!

Me: "Oh, no, that's not normal, your computer should be nice and quiet"

Her: "Really? Maybe that's why I am having so many problems! Maybe the Engine's going out!"

hahaha!

Today's Gem:

User calls in, states that her second monitor wont' work, she doesnt know whats wrong, she's tried everything, please come fix it right away.

When another tech and I are in the building, we go to take a look at the issue. User waasnt at her desk, but when we got there, we noticed that something was clearly amiss.

Everything was fine after we pushed that power button.

Our plan was to inform the user that the mind reading capabilities of the monitor had been disabled, but we want to keep our jobs.

Well, here I think you should have asked those implied questions to the user: is it plugged in? Is it on? do you see the light showing is on? and so on.

You would have saved the trip, I think.

But yeah...that is a good one

True, however, when one of our users says "please come out" our policy is "no more questions, go to their desk"

lol. I acutally didn't get the chance to say much of anything, as soon as she had me on the phone, she did that thing of instantly telling me what was happening, and that she had "done everything" and "please come out" almost before I had "This is Vallori" out of my mouth. lol
