The Nightmare Of Vista

Posted about 1 year ago I've worked on Microsoft systems for longer than most people stay married these days and with each one came pros and cons but I could always find my way around with some discovery clicking. I can't say the same for Vista. It's horrendous. It's like someone went out of their way to make users scratch their heads in confusion and scream in frustration. From my point of view this is the worst user friendly of Redmond's 20 platforms. I just can't wait to see what "Vienna"... Windows 7 brings in a few short years. |

Posted about 1 year ago You see a surprisingly large amount of Windows2000 computers around still too... seems like each release is getting progressively less stable and more bloated.

Posted about 1 year ago I'd go counter current on this one. I like Vista, or at least don't think it's all that bad. It's more tricky, sure, in that most of the control panel stuff has moved around. i guess it also seems to pause and thinkg a lot as well.... :) overall though, it just seems like everything else. Nothing's perfect, except for a stippped down linux firewall.

Posted about 1 year ago Have you guys seen the latest Mac-PC Ad with the PC Vista guy at the podium.. it's a hoot and right in line with the current IT opposition to Vista. I just pushed up a new story about a survey that outlines why IT leaders are not too hungry to migrate: http://www.insidetech.com/news/articles/656-survey-it-not-hungry-for-vista-migration-

Posted about 1 year ago Believe it or not though miracles do happen, I managed to print my first document from Vista over my wifi network to a shared printer on my XP Pro machine. I have been trying to do this since May. I'm the man now, er...well at least I can print now. : )

Posted about 1 year ago I've been using Vista since very shortly after it came out and I really haven't had any complaints. I do have a couple of pieces of older software that aren't compatible with Aero, but Vista smoothly switches between the Vista Basic and the Vista Aero schemes so I barely notice. I have noticed no drop-off in performance in my everyday tasks and have also noticed a remarkable increase in stability (no crashes in the nearly 10 months I've been using Vista as opposed to about one a month under XP SP2). I know it's against the grain, but I just don't have all those negative things to say about Vista. I've even been able to print via wifi from day one. ;-)

Posted about 1 year ago I actually like Vista. Not only for the sleak GUI but also for its features like the UAC (which most of the others hate). The UAC actually protected me from stealth program trying to install itself without my knowledge. Good thing UAC issued a warning so I was able to deny the installation. Many users also complain that Vista is very slow and is resource intesive. But remember that Vista is designed for the newer generation computers. With the right hardware, Vista runs smoothly. I admit that Vista is not all that great, but it's not all that bad either. You just have to get used to it.

Posted 11 months ago I have used Vista for quite a while... For like 4 months... Then it started to act dumb on me... I am now using Windows XP again.

Posted about 1 month ago Vista came on my new laptop when I bought it. I'd already planned to beef up the RAM, so that wasn't a problem. I have to say that i haven't had any problems with Vista. I also have to admit that I'm not a "heavy" user. Open Office, Gimp, gnuCsh, and web browsing are the main things I use it for. I've had problems with past versions of Windows, but so far this install is stable. (Geez! I can't believe I wrote that down. I know better than to tempt the demons in Redmond. ;))

Posted 22 days ago I'm happy with Vista (have been since March of 2006) and I have run it next to my wife's work computer that runs Linux (I forget which distribution). I don't see much of a difference in performance. Of course, my computer was built for Vista, unlike some of the underpowered machines that some people have tried to run it on. I simply don't have (a) any stability problems or (b) any performance issues. Returning to the original post, I had no trouble figuring out the interface by doing some "discovery clicking". Yes, it's different from previous versions of Windows, but I despite all the bad press, I actually think it is an improvement over XP (which I still use at work every day).
