Posted about 1 year ago I by no means am a NERD or a GEEK but, just because im in the CT field and know something about computers, everyone thinks that. I was told that I could maybe do something about it so I am I have 11 tattoos and am the biggest REDNECK you may ever meet. |

| Posted about 1 year ago I don't feel insulted by anyone in the tech community here. Its just that the people from where I'm from tend to use NERD and GEEK as an insult. I do take it as a complement from other in our field. |

| Posted about 1 year ago well to me a nerd is the guy with the pocket protector.. short sleeves collar shirt.. shy.. the geek is the guy who can fix anything.. but those could just be stereotypes i've absorbed thanks to mass media :) |

| Posted about 1 year ago i decided to check out Wikipedia for some definitions: "While nerd, dork, and geek share in passionate intellectual pursuits and social ineptitude, nerd has the added implication of being affable and amusing. A nerd is often excluded from physical activity, and is often considered a loner by peers." this i found more interesting though lol:

| Posted about 1 year ago Hey, new to this community but not new to the tech world. I've been called everything under the sun and it just does not bother me. Ever take a good look at the folks calling you these names? If I'm guessing right most need help desk assistance working a toaster oven, let alone a computer. |

| Posted about 1 year ago I've been called a computer geek many a time. I've come to admire the term. Cause it's the same people calling me a geek as the ones that are paying me to fix their computers and build them systems for their businesses. If I'm making money, that's cool with me... lol |

| Posted about 1 year ago I have lucked out because coworkers chose the name "Wiz Kid" over the dreaded "Nerd/Geek". I think the real nerds are in the Accounting department, anyone agree? |

| Posted about 1 year ago Yep, JeffEmon, I think I prefer being called a"Wiz Kid" rather than a "Nerd/Geek". But in my current work, being a "Nerd/Geek" is not that bad since I'm in an IT industry. |

| Posted about 1 year ago Name calling, no matter what age group, usually comes from someone who is intimidated by you(or what you know etc)...so just shake it off. Since my hands are my money makers, a few of my co-workers call me web-paw...although if if one of the guys there called me that, I'd probably feel awkward. |

| Posted about 1 year ago Heh. Guess I"m a little weird. I always took it as a complement when I was called a nerd. And I have a tendancy to use the word "geek" as a positive verb. I suppose it really just depends on how you were brought up around the words though. Growing up I always admired the other kids and adults that were able work on computers and electronics, so guess because of that, I view those words as positives things to be. |

| Posted about 1 year ago being a geek and being a blonde? Yea, that is an oxymoron. Those two just don't fit together, if you're going to look at it from a stereotypical viewpoint. One suggest you have extremely heightened level of knowledge the other suggest that you have a very finite knowledge about very little.. lol |

| Posted about 1 year ago I'm a proponent of creating some sort of neologism that encompasses all in the Geek/Nerd spectrum (I think we can all agree that not all geeks are nerds, and vice versa). I don't think a portmanteau will do the trick - being called a "Gerd" or a "Neek" doesn't seem very flattering at all. Maybe some sort of super-nerdy innovation based on our collective strengths, rather than the stereotypically portrayed "weaknesses?" Something like "Cerebralicious," maybe? Intelligawesome? 2 Cogent 2 Quit? Or maybe we just need "Weird" Al Yankovic to do a Justin Timberlake parody that brings not Sexy, but Nerdy back? Geek/Nerd Pride! (We don't have a rainbow flag yet, because the accompanying spectral analysis data makes it bulky...) |
